Silver Palace
Chateau de Versailles
12 February 2008
The Chateau de Versailles is hosting an exhibition devoted to the magnificent epoch of the Sun King. This period entered the history as the flowering of the French military, political and artistic life. The halls and rooms of the Louis XIV were richly decorated with silver items to emphasize the ruler's greatness. The best smiths were invited to design the royal furniture, so in combination with silver mirrors, vases, bowls and dishes, it made a strong impression upon the guests of the king's residence.
But the life of this splendor wasn't long as they were melted down to finance the war. The current exhibition gives a unique chance to see the silver riches that once decorated the Hall of Mirrors and the staterooms due to the remaining drawings and restored pieces of furniture. Visitors are welcome from 28 November 2007 to 9 March 2008.

New Approach To Art
Musee d’Orsay
13 February 2008
The Frenchman Bertrand Lavier is one of the most interesting artists of the contemporary art scene. His works belong in many regards to the period of art in exhibition. In 1984 for instance he declared: "I make exhibitions: I don't produce images, I don't have a studio".
Influenced by the work of Marcel Duchamp and the New Realists, Lavier has been questioning the status of the artwork, the ambiguity of objects and the transforming role played by the place where the artwork is exhibited. He applies thick coats of paint to objects like cars, cupboards and refrigerators, leaving them still usable.
From 22 February to 18 May everyone can get acquainted with the creative work of the artist at Musee d'Orsay.

Belarussian Vincent van Gogh
Pinacotheque
29 February 2008
Chaim Soutine is one of the best representatives of the Expessionist movement. Born in Belarus (which at that time was a part of the USSR), he studied in Lithuania and then, in company of his long-time friends Pinchus Kremegne and Michel Kikoine, the artist moved to Paris. In France he joined the famous Ecole des Beaux-Arts and pretty soon managed to develop highly original style and technique.
When the three friends came to France, they lived in Montparnasse, where Soutin made friends with Amedeo Modigliani and Mark Chagall.
The artist's life was full of sufferings and deprivations. As a Jew, he had to leave Paris after it was occupied by the German soldiers. He had to hide in forests and sleep in the open air. Soutine died of a perforated ulcer in 1943.
From 10 October 2007 to 2 March 2008 Paris Pinacotheque is hosting an exhibition of Soutine's works. Some are on display for the first time. The visitors have a unique chance to see the works of the artist who is truly considered to be "a Belarussian Vincent van Gogh".
