Gordon Ramsay restaurant in Versailles
Set to open this spring.
20 March 2008
The world-renowned chef Gordon Ramsay has already been awarded with twelve Michelin stars and is now moving to one of the most stylish cities in the world - Paris. The new Ramsay restaurant will appear at the Trianon Palace & Spa in Versailles - one could hardly imagine a more prestigious location than this. Scheduled to open this spring, the restaurant is likely to become the jewel of the Ramsay crown.

One feature the restaurant will stand out for is its British ingredients. At the same time, the chef comments that these will be "only the things French chefs would buy from Britain", like the langoustines and the hand-dived scallops. Ramsay wants to bring his own style of cooking to Paris, shaking up the formality the French cuisine is known for, adding "a bit of humour" to it. The restaurant will have only ten tables, five dinner services and two lunches on Friday and Saturday.

Padmavati
At Theatre du Chatelet.
21 March 2008
Through March 24th, 2008 Theatre du Chatelet invites you to discover a tragic story of love and honour - "Padmavati," Sanjay Leela Bhansali's version of the opera by Albert Roussel. This is a story of a rivalry between Ratan-Sen, Prince of Chitoor, and Alaouddin, Sultan of the Mogul, who demands the hand of Ratan-Sen's wife, Padmavati. Alaouddin wounds Ratan-Sen during city attacks - still, he does not get what he wants, because to save her husband's honour Padmavati kills him thus ensuring her own death.

Padmavati is an Indian story in French, which makes it an untypical opera. Padmavati's part is performed by Sylvie Brunet, a troupe of Indian dancers (choreography by Tanusree Shankar); a live horse, elephant and tiger add an eastern flavor to the opera.

New design for Eiffel Tower
The tower celebrates its 120th anniversary in 2009.
24 March 2008
If you are planning a visit to Paris in 2009, be prepared for a surprise: the city's main attraction, Eiffel Tower, might be partly redesigned for its 120th anniversary in 2009. Changes concern its public viewing platform and reception areas. According to Serero Architects' design plan, there will be a carbon Kevlar structure added to the top floor plate, thus expanding the monument's floor area from 280 to 580 square meters.

Currently, to access the tower's viewing platform, one has to queue 30 minutes to 1 hour. The new contruction will help increase the tower's quality of access and help solve the crowd's management problems. The design causes lots of controversiry. But designers point to the fact that the addition is temporary and does not demand any changes in the tower's basic structure - that is why it can easlily be removed after the anniversary.

Tailor-made champagne
Service offered by Perrier-Jouet champagne house.
25 March 2008
Champagne connoisseurs might really like the new service offered by one of the French wineries. The Epernay Champagne manor, Perrier-Jouet (1,5 hours from Paris) creates "personal", tailor-made champagne for you. How can this be?

As one might know, the process of champagne-making is a complex thing, which involves various chemical processes and physical intervention. But since the result can vary, why not try to adapt it to one's taste? People arriving to Perrier-Jouet undergo several tests - they touch silk, look at paintings and do many other things. Depending on their reaction, the Cellar Master of Perrier-Jouet defines their "champagne personality" and creates the sparkling drink that suites them best. But note that it takes almost a year for your personal champagne to get 100 % ready. At the same time, you can even co-sign the bottle's label.
