Lovis Corinth
Musee d’Orsay
17 April 2008
Musee d'Orsay in cooperation with German and Swiss museums is running its main spring exposition - a monographic exhibition of Lovis Corinth's works. Devoted to the artist's 150th anniversary, it is titled "Between Impressionism And Expressionism" that corresponds to the artistic way of Corinth.
The painter played an important role in the "Berlin secessionist movement" (he became its president in 1911) and was one of the main German impressionists but at the end of his life Corinth created a series of expressionistic works. The exhibition will feature works on the Biblical themes, landscapes, genre paintings, portraits and self-portraits, nudes, etchings and lithographs.

Patti Smith - Land 250
Fondation Cartier.
22 April 2008
Most people know Patti Smith as the rock legend, the "Godmother of Punk" and the true punk muse, who was both a songwriter and a poet. Last year the singer was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and nowadays every self-respecting rock lover has Patti Smith's album in his home collection.

The Fondation Cartier dedicates its exhibition "Land 250" (opened till the 22nd of June) to the artist and pays much attention to the varied talents Patti Smith has. Drawings, poetry, films, photographs, music - these are some of the fields the exhibition throws the light on. Plus to this, one will be curious to see the singer's cherished personal belongings, like a picture taken by Constantin Brancusi, some original manuscripts, a stone from the river where Virginia Woolf committed suicide and more. For the time of the exhibition the Foundation's bookshop has turned into the artist's personal library, for which she chose books, CDs, films and objects.

“The Parisians during the occupation” by Andre Zucca
La Bibliotheque Historique de la Ville de Paris.
24 April 2008
Young women sunbathing at Jardin du Luxembourg, cafes overcrowded with merry people, carefree citizens walking along the Paris boulevards - strange as its might seem, but these are the subjects of the exhibition "The Parisians during the occupation" at La Bibliothèque Historique de la Ville de Paris. The exhibition presents 250 colour photos by the French photographer André Zucca, who at first worked as a war correspondent for Paris Match and Paris Soir in 1939, but was then requisitioned by the Germans and worked for the German magazine Signal.

According to the organisers of the exhibition, its aim is to give visitors an idea of how Paris looked like during the occupation. However, critics say that the exhibition shows only one side of the city's life during the period, and is poorly explained. Besides, the fact that the photographer worked for Germany makes the subjects of the photos biased and ambiguous. In any ways, until 1st July 2008 you are invited to visit the exhibition and check it all by yourselves.
