Babylon

Current exhibition at the Louvre explores the great civilization of Babylon, both through historic facts and legends, bringing together exhibits from all over the world. Artworks, manuscripts, documents, statues and other precious objects are dedicated to different periods of Babylonian history (from First Babylonian Dynasty to Middle Babylonian Period, the Neo-Babylonian Empire and Babylon under the foreign domination) and certain fields (sciences, literature, archaeological excavations etc.).

Babylon, the city of ancient Mesopotamia, was located 85 kilometers from where Baghdad now stands. Initially a small town, it attained political importance during the first Babylonian dynasty. The city was well-known for the Hanging Gardens of Babylon which used to be one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The exhibition is opened until June 2, 2008.
