The world premier of "Melancholia" (libretto by Jon Fosse, composer - Georg Friedrich Haas, staged by the Opéra National de Paris) arrives to the Parisian Palais Garnier June 9 - 27.
The production is based on the book by the Norwegian author Jon Fosse which is dedicated to the late 19th century painter Lars Hertervig. His essay, however, is not just a biography, but an intent look at Hertervig's paintings and his inner world. Starting with one day of the artist's life, the book then goes further to a later period, and as a conclusion describes the author's interest in the painter.
The parts are played by Otto Katzameier (Lars), Melanie Walz (Helene), Johannes Schmidt and Angelika Luz (Mr and Mrs Winckelmann), Daniel Gloger (Alfred) and others. The original book is in German, but for those who admire tha artist's work a visit to the opera is a must!
