Musical France
THE ILE DE FRANCE REGION
03 October 2007
Whether you’re a real connoisseur of music or not, you’ll certainly enjoy the atmosphere of the «Festival d’Ile de France» which takes place in the Ile de France region. This is a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic holiday of music.
This year it is built around the famous Martin Luther King’s speech «I Have A Dream» and focuses on such topics like peace and brotherhood, lamentation and prophecy, revolt and reconciliation.
The music played during the festival is very diverse: from Negro spirituals and gospels to American musicals.
And don’t forget to visit the Parisian Factory evenings (four evenings of open stages where current music will be performed), which will take place from 10 to 13 October at the Cigale.

Joe Rocks On
ZENITH
03 October 2007
A legendary singer Joe Cocker will give a show in the course of his European tour in support of the latest album «Hymn For My Soul» which was released in March 2007. The concert will take place in the famous Parisian Zenith on 3 October.
Metalworker by profession, Joe Cocker decided to start up a career of a singer. He worked in his brother’s band «Vance Arnold and the Avengers», then started his own band. Cocker enjoyed his first success after releasing a cover of a Beatles song «With A Little Help From My Friends». He became world-famous owing to his album «Unchain My Heart».
The career wasn’t that smooth though. Joe Cocker went through a series of failures until in 1980s he decided to come back to Afro-American rock music that perfectly suited his throaty and husky voice.
The Parisian concert will give pleasure not only to Joe’s fans but to all people fond of soul and rock music.

When Legend And Reality Collide
MUSEE DE LA MONNAIE DE PARIS
04 October 2007
One of the most interesting Greek legends, the one about Jason and the Golden Fleece, may turn out to be based on real events. According to the ancient story, the king of Iolcos in Thessaly was overthrown by his brother Pelias. Jason was promised to get the reigns of rule back if he brings the Golden Fleece from the faraway Colchide (modern Georgia). Together with his friends, the Argonauts, Jason sets sail abroad to seek the treasure. He comes across many dangers, overcomes many difficulties and seizes the Golden Fleece with the help of beautiful Medea.
The current exhibition displays a collection of gold jewelry discovered in eighth to first century B.C. tombs near Vani, Georgia. The archeologists’ findings let the scientists assume that Jason may have existed in reality.
This is the first time the collection is shown outside Georgia. So don’t miss a chance to touch the history…or a legend.

Midsummer’s Dream In October
NOUVEAU THEATRE MOUFFETARD
04 October 2007
Do you think that Shakespeare is a serious playwright understandable only to adults? You are totally wrong then. On October 3 the new Théâtre Mouffetard starts a musical for kids «Petit songe d’une nuit d’été», based on the famous «A Midsummer’s Night Dream» by William Shakespeare. Stephanie Tesson managed to adopt the story the way that the show performed by the Compagnie du Midi is interesting to the young theatre-goers.
The plot is really gripping: four people want to escape the arranged marriages and to sneak off the power of the ruling king. They run into the magic forest inhabited by fairies, elves, imps and other sprites. But their plans become confused when one of the creatures uses magic that makes the young people fall in love with the first person that they meet on waking up.
The musical is a nice way to acquaint your child with a fascinating world of Shakespeare’s works!

The Little Hero is Back
CASINO DE PARIS
04 October 2007
The French kids adore the little kind-hearted boy Kirikou. Originally he was a hero of the West African fairytale, then he became the main character of the French cartoons. 2 animated films “Kirikou et la Sorcière” (Kirikou and the Witch) and “Kirikou et les bêtes sauvages” (Kirikou and the Wild Animals) have added to the popularity of the boy.
From 3 October Kirikou’s fans will be able to meet the hero once again in the musical by Michel Ocelot in Casino de Paris. The plot is based on “Kirikou and the Witch”, the first episode of the Kirikou’s s story. The choreographer, Wayne McGregor made the show dynamic, interesting and original.
The musical is a real fascination for the whole family!

Manu Katche: Drummer Of Talent
THEATRE DES CHAMPS-ELYSEES
05 October 2007
He was accustomed to live in the world of music since his childhood. First classical dance courses, then piano and finally he entered the Conservatoire Régional deaint Maur for classical music training in percussion.
One can’t say he developed an unusual drum technique but Katche has always won people’s hearts not due to the out-of-ordinary mastery of the instrument but owing to his own style that is easily recognizable.
Manu Katche enjoyed his first success after playing for Peter Gabriel’s album «So». Despite his work as a composer and lyric writer, Manu Katche is mainly known as a drummer. In the course of his career he collaborated with such well-known musicians like Bee Gees, Francis Cabrel, Jean Jacques Goldman, Sting and Tracy Chapman.
Besides Katche is extremely interested in jazz. From 1989, he worked with the saxophonist Jan Garbarek, joined by the violist L. Shankar. Manu appeared fine times in the group of the Norwegian saxophonist and called on him for his first record "Neighbourhood" in 2005.
Now he recorded his second album «Playground». He invited two young polish musicians Marcin Wasilewski on the piano and Slawomir Kurkiewicz on double bass and the Norwegians Mathias Eick on the trumpet and Trygve Seim on the saxophone to collaborate with him.
Don’t miss a chance to visit the show of the unique drummer, which will take place on 8 October at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées!

The Master Of Gracefulness
THEATRE ZINGARO
05 October 2007
One of the most enchanting shows is run at THEATRE ZINGARO. A perfect cocktail of riding, dance, music and theatre won’t leave a single onlooker indifferent! The show is directed by the famous horse trainer Bartabas who has been staging the performances for over twenty years. After a series of experiments Bartabas and his Théâtre Equestre Zingaro returned to the primary source of inspiration: the Balkans and Gypsy lifestyle. The current «Battuta» goes to the accompaniment of the two orchestras from Romania, Fanfare Shukar of Moldavia and Taraf from Transylvania. Seventeen riders work wonders on thirty-five galloping horses obeying the crazy rhythm of the musicians.
Don’t miss the show that is admired by kids and adults alike!
