Marie Antoinette
Galeries Nationales Du Grand Palais
10 April 2008
Marie Antoinette was the youngest daughter of Empress Theresa of Austria. In 1770 she married the heir to the French throne and moved to France. The lady was admired by the court for she was beautiful, intelligent and charming. The popularity of the young queen prompted the political elite of the country to restrict her influence. Nevertheless, Marie Antoinette continued to play an important role in the life of France. She became a patron of the arts, fashion and music. Due to this fact, she was enraptured by one and severely criticized by the others. Soon she was dismissed for being "the Austrian", a squanderer, an intriguer and a counter-revolutionary.
