Jan Fabre at the Louvre

 Though displaying a great amount of works by the great masters of the past, the Louvre also demonstrates its openness to contemporary art and living artists with the exhibition "Jan Fabre at the Louvre. The Angel of Metamorphosis."

Jan Fabre, a Belgian multidisciplinary artist, a graduate from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts and the Institute for Decorative Arts in Antwerp, started his carreer in the late 1970s with provocative "actions" and "private performances." In 1980s he became the shining star of the Flemish new wave. Not only is he a talented visual artist, but also a skilled draftsmen, a choreographer and a designer. His exhibition at the Louvre encourages visitors to rediscover celebrated works by the world-known Flemish, Dutch and German masters through the eyes of the artist.

 Approximately 350 exhibitors from all over France gather at the Parisian Antiques Brocante - antiques fair, taking place 8 - 18 May at Place de la Bastille. Visitors can browse around the stalls and choose something from a great amount of goods: furniture, paitings, engravings, pottery, silverware, glass, ceramics, tableware, knick-knacks, clothes, beautiful tablecloths and much more. The fair is opened from 11.00 to 19.00 daily. Admission is chargeable. For your convenience there will be an expert consulting visitors during the show. Expertise and advice are free of charge.

 Presences Paris is the annual event organised by Paris' Maison de Radio France at several French cities, including Lille, Montpellier, Toulouse, and Paris. 9 - 11 of May the event takes place at the capital's Cite de la Musique. In 2008 the festival celebrates its 18th birthday with a number of great concerts. Three of the largest symphonic orchestras take part in Presences: l'Orchestre National de Lille, l'Orchestre National de Montpellier and l'Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse. The festival programme is complemented by the concerts of younger talents.

The participants of this year's event are: Edith Canat of Chizy, Gyorgy Sandor Ligeti, Magnus Lindberg, Yan Maresz, Toshi Ichiyanagi, Olivier Meston, Toru Takemitsu, Francois-Bernard Mache, Philippe Schoeller, John Adams, Jean-Louis Agobet, Pierre Boulez, Jean-Luc Darbellay and Akira Nishimura.

Please note that concerts start at different time each day. Admission to all of them is free.

Works by 250 artists at 130 sites of Paris.

The «Ateliers d'Artistes de Belleville» association opens doors to the public and gives visitors a chance to have a look at how and where artists work. During four days May 16th - 19th you can find yourself in the world of ceramists, engravers, video-makers and painters. Works by 250 artists are represented at 130 sites all over the 20th, 19th, 10th and 11th arrondissements of Paris. The theme for this year's event is "Temptation." Don't miss exhibitions of works by three associations from Morocco, Brasil and Vietnam, and other events within the Open Days, including street theatre performances, installations and balls.

 Blue Man Group is an internationally renowned creative organisation which is best known for unusual stage costumes (heads painted in blue grease paint and dressed in latex bald caps, and black clothing) and amazing shows in which they use atypical instruments (zither, tubulum, drumbone, dogulu, aronophonic etc.). May 14th - 24th they give several performances at Palais des Sports.

Founded in 1988 by Matt Goldman, Phil Stanton and Chris Wink, the Blue Man Group incorporates theatre, music, science and improvisation. The show is family-oriented, humorous (often satiric) and energetic, so everyone will be delighted. Performances in Paris are a part of «How to be a megastar tour.»

 Current exhibition at the Louvre explores the great civilization of Babylon, both through historic facts and legends, bringing together exhibits from all over the world. Artworks, manuscripts, documents, statues and other precious objects are dedicated to different periods of Babylonian history (from First Babylonian Dynasty to Middle Babylonian Period, the Neo-Babylonian Empire and Babylon under the foreign domination) and certain fields (sciences, literature, archaeological excavations etc.).

Babylon, the city of ancient Mesopotamia, was located 85 kilometers from where Baghdad now stands. Initially a small town, it attained political importance during the first Babylonian dynasty. The city was well-known for the Hanging Gardens of Babylon which used to be one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The exhibition is opened until June 2, 2008.
