The Grand Steeple - Chase de Paris
Auteuil Racecourse.
23 May 2008
Because of the uneasy obstacles its participants have to get over and the lavish prize they compete for, the Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris is reputed as the most prestigious jump race in France. This year the race takes place May 25th at the Auteuil Racecourse. The event was first organised in May 1874 under the name "Grand National de France" and was the French equivalent of the British "Grand National Steeplechase." From the course length and the number of obstacles to the conditions for participants, it has changed a lot since then.

Some of the obstacles which punctuate the Auteuil track are the "Double barrier", "stone wall" and "earth mound", not to mention the crossing of the "Rivière des Tribunes" (Stands Stream) which is likely to become the culminating moment of the race.
