A Visit To The Pantheon
Interested in French history? Then don't miss the chance to visit one of the main Paris sights - the Pantheon.
The construction of the building began in 1764 by order of Louis XV, who commissioned the architect Jacques-Germain Soufflot to construct this massive church. The latter chose the Neo-Classical style, which best suited the architect's conception. The church was ready by 1790, but after the turbulent events of the French Revolution it was turned into a mausoleum to honour the great men who contributed to the history of France. Voltaire, Victor Hugo, Emile Zola, Marie Curie, Jean Jaurès, Jean Moulin and many other prominent French men were buried within the walls of the building.
The inquisitive minds will be delighted by the model of Foucault's Pendulum, an experiment devised to demonstrate the rotation of the earth.
The excursion promises to be both educational and entertaining.
