Oriental Opera

THEATRE ADYAR2007-11-13   Have you ever been to Chinese opera? In fact, it's worth visiting! The genre combines music, songs, literature, acrobatics, dance and mime. The themes are taken from national literature, classics, mythology and legends...
   Chinese opera has always been extremely popular in the homeland, remaining little known in other countries. Organizers of the third edition of the "Festival des opéras traditionnels chinois"aim to acquaint French public with the genre, which numbers more than three hundred and fifty forms. Six troupes from different regions of China will show brilliant performances, which will end up by closing and awards ceremony.

ZENITH2007-11-16   The indie and darkside group Interpol will perform at the Zenith on 21 November. One can be sure the concert will meet with success as the band is very popular not only in their native USA but all over the world. They became famous in 2002 after releasing the debut album "Turn On Your Bright Lights". Its follower "Antics" was also a world hit. The music of "Interpol" is gloomy and strident but in fact it looks they don't have many reasons to feel sad as they are doing pretty well now. The band is touring in support of the new album, "Our Love To Admire". This autumn the fans of the post-punk have a chance to see them on stage in Paris. Don't miss the event at the Zenith!

Debutante Ball In Paris

HOTEL CRILLON2007-11-16   The sumptuous Hotel Crillon hosts the annual Debutante Ball, one of the most important events in the Paris high life. The tradition to arrange such events traces back to the times when the members of the royal families chose the partners in life at the balls.

How The Suez Canal Was Built

MUSEE NATIONAL DE LA MARINE2007-11-19   The famous Paris Musée National de la Marine runs an exhibition devoted to the works of the little known French photographer of the 19th century Ermé Désiré. He lived in Cairo and spent plenty of time capturing the construction of the Suez Canal.
   He traveled with his mobile photo laboratory on a boat, making the sepia shots of the Egyptian works. The Musée National de la Marine now displays fifty of his photographs, the archives of the museum store another twenty-two shots.
   The event will surely be enjoyed both by the people interested in the photography and those who are keen on history!

Impassioned Tango

PARIS2007-11-20   The beginning of the 20th century was marked by a worldwide tangomania. Appeared in Argentina, the dance quickly won the hearts of the people in every corner of the globe. The records were set in France as the whole Paris went crazy over the dance. Tango took the French capital by storm, and until the outbreak of the World War I the Tango was a powerful cultural force, catalyzing changes in fashion and in the mechanisms of social interaction.
   A century later, Paris is still mad about the dance of passion. A special festival was organized to glorify the dance, It focuses on the varieties, international influences, and the latest trends in tango-dancing.
   The feast takes place for the 10th time. The programme is rich in different events: concerts, dances, singing and dance workshops, exhibitions, reading and food fiestas are on the list.

The Magical Story of Alcina

OPERA NATIONAL DE PARIS2007-11-20   The famous Opéra National de Paris restarts George Frederic Handel's Alcina. This is the version by the Canadian director Robert Carsen, which premiered in 1999. The opera Alcina was composed for Handel's first season at the Covent Garden Theatre, London and debuted on April 16, 1735.
   The plot is based on Ariosto's Orlando Furioso - a medieval tale of love, power and magic. The story is in fact very intriguing: the enchantress Alcina attracts men to her bewitched island, turns them into animals and rocks once she tires of them. Ruggiero is the latest of such victims. His girlfriend Bradamante invents a plan to rescue him...what will come out of it?.. visit the Opéra National de Paris and find it out!
   The leading roles are performed by Emma Bell (until 9 December) and Inga Kalna (from 13 December). Vesselina Kasarova as Ruggiero, Olga Pasichnyk as Morgana, Sonia Prina as Bradamante, François Lis as Melisso, Xavier Mas as Oronto and Judith Gauthier as Oberto are also starring. Conducted by Jean-Christophe Spinosi, the opera is a real musical masterpiece!

New Talents Show

PARIS EXPO ESPACE CHAMPERRET2007-11-21   Contemporary art has always been popular in France. Lots of private museums and galleries exhibit creations of the present day artists. Nevertheless, lots of new talents don't have an opportunity to present their works to public.
   That's why a special contemporary art event in support of young artists and designers was organized. It is called "Mac 2007". It has already been held in 2000 and ended up with great success.
   This year the event will take place at Paris Expo Espace Champerret and will present 130 hand-picked artists with installations, paintings, videos, sculptures, photography...

Carmen: The Only Performance

THE PALAIS OMNISPORTS DE PARIS BERCY2007-11-22   The Palais Omnisports de Paris Bercy is hosting a one-show performance of the brilliant opera by Georges Bizet. The event will take place on 4 December, bringing together onstage over 200 artists: the finest opera soloists, dancers from the Usti Nad Labem ballet company, the Ukraine National Symphony Orchestra musicians and the choruses of the National Academy of Ukraine, conducted by Walter Haupt.
   The plot is based on the well-known story by Prosper Merimee written in the 19th century: a beautiful gypsy Carmen seduces Don José, a brigadier in the Spanish army. He can't resist her charms and becomes Carmen's lover. But the freedom-loving gypsy Carmen wishes to be free to love whoever she wants. She leaves her lover for the matador Escamillo. Don José, full of jealousy, doesn't want to be left aside...
   The December show is an outstanding event in the life of Paris opera. An absolute must-see!

Equestrian Show

THE PALAIS OMNISPORTS DE PARIS BERCY2007-11-22   Horses are one of the most graceful and beautiful animals in the world, that's why it's no wonder that equestrian performances always gather lots of spectators. The Palais Omnisports de Paris Bercy is getting ready for an extraordinary event. From 23 to 25 November it is housing enchanting shows which bring together four of the biggest equestrian schools: the Spanish Riding School of Vienna, the Cadre Noir de Saumur, the Royal Andalusian School of Jérez, and the Portuguese School of Equestrian Art of Lisbon. The riders and horses will show the best they can, demonstrating the closeness and collaboration between man and animal.

Paris Espace Champerret hosts Toy Expo, an event that brings together millions of toys! Month Of Documentary Films

PARIS2007-11-23   Last autumn month is time for documentary movies in France. Various arthouses, cinemas, schools and libraries all over the country take part in the annual November's Documentary Film Month (Le Mois du Film Documentaire), which aims to join audiences with directors, and new talent with the old ones.
   The events will be held in every corner of France. No matter where you are - you'll certainly find at least one local venue taking part in the festival.
   In 2006 over 150,000 visitors and about 897 institutions took part in November's Documentary Film Month. This year the figures are expected to increase.

PELOUSE DE REUILLY2007-11-26   Are you fond of tales and legends? And the Oriental ones? If you answer positively then you'll certainly like the performance by the Beijing Circus! The Chinese circus company are on tour and from 24 November to 6 January everyone has a chance to watch the wonderful shows composed of acrobatics, circus stunts, Kung Fu and unbelievable feats by the Shaolin monks. The spectacular performances, rich in magic and Chinese folklore, will delight both young circus-goers and their parents.
   The Beijing Circus is hosted by the prestigious Cirque Phénix tent on the Pelouse de Reuill. Don't miss the feast of colours and wizardy!

50 Cent In Paris

PALAIS OMNISPORTS DE PARIS BERCY2007-11-26   One of the most famous rappers, the American bad boy 50 cent, is giving the only show in Palais Omnisports de Paris on 27 November.
   The notorious rapper (the real name of 50 cent is Curtis Jackson) was born in Queens. He took to drugs at a young age and by reason of that was often jailed. The rapper confesses that the only thing that helped him go on with this life was the dream of becoming a famous rapper. And little by little his dream bagan to come true.
   In 2000 he was about to die after a murder attempt. But he survived and returned on stage in a better shape than ever. His career made a steep turn, and very swiftly he joined the elite of the rap world. His hits, such as "Wanksta", "In Da Club", "Candy shop" were sung all over the world. Less notorious and less hostile, he still continues to sing about the most burning issues of our present society.
   50 cent is the kind of person that hardly leaves anyone indifferent. Loved, admired, hated, he is without a doubt one of the brightest stars of today's rap Olympus. The present show is a real must visit for all rap fans.

In Vino Veritas (Paris Wine Fair)

CARROUSEL DU LOUVRE2007-11-27    In vino veritas, as goes a famous Latin expression. And "Le Grand Tasting 2007" gives you a plenty of chances to try to search it, offering the visitors to try the best world wines. The program of the event held at the Carrousel du Louvre is rich in events: tastings, conferences, exhibitions, demonstrations and master class workshops... More than a hundred chateaux, both celebrated and little known, are represented.
   The wine fair takes place for the second time. It is expected that some 20,000 visitors will attend the event. Don't miss the possibility to learn interesting facts about the grape drink and of course to taste the best wines from all over the globe.
